An exhibition of three talented Oklahoma artists opens on March 1st, 2024 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the award-winning art gallery, JRB Art at The Elms in the historic Paseo Arts District. This show features the contemporary impressionist paintings of Rae Baldridge, Filmmaker and award-winning photographer, Matt Payne, and John Wolfe, an accomplished painter and sculptor of contemporary design.

Born in Kermanshah and educated in Tehran, Iran, Behnaz Sohrabian discovered her love of art, freedom and creative expression as a small child, developed a passion for painting and began her professional art career at the age of 10. Behnaz has earned a B.S. in Applied Chemistry, a B.A. in Painting and a Master of Arts in Art Studies. After completing her master’s degree she immigrated to the United States in 2010 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2017. "My aim is to paint simply. Apply easy brush stokes. Emphasize light and shadow and the dynamics between the subject and background. I choose varied subject matter to convey the concept of femininity with simplicity, natural beauty and inspiration. Women, flowers and mother earth symbolize the essential power of creation in our world. They interact with an intentionally sensuous dance that expresses the process of fertility and reproduction, strength and compassion. My art explores the drama, texture and wonder of this creative process."

Art, for most people, has become more meaningful. Art is no longer just something decorative that hangs on the wall. Social distancing and sheltering at home has made us realize that art is a constant companion that enables us to manage external stresses, while providing comfort, friendship, and inspiration. Since 2000, our goal at JRB Art at The Elms has been to bring you the best local and nationally recognized artists. This year we have upped our gallery game to make art more conveniently available to you by offering Free Delivery in the Metro Area and Free Shipping throughout the United States.

Last night, Friday, November 13th, JRB Art at The Elms hosted a socially distanced opening for its November - December exhibits, featuring the work of two gallery artists Holly Wilson and Behnaz Sohrabian. Both shows featured works in different genres and techniques. “Seven Sides of the Self,” by Wilson showcased her skillful bronze sculptures, photographs, and paintings, while "Human," by Sohrabian presented her beautifully diverse portrait, landscape, floral, nude and abstract paintings. Both exhibitions will be on display at the gallery Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00am to 5:00pm and are available to view online at www.jrbartgallery.com.

Classic yet modern landscape, figure and floral studies and two abstractions symbolize the “Human” in a show by Behnaz Sohrabian.

Sohrabian’s exhibit opens from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m Friday at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker, with a show by Holly Wilson.

This fall, JRB Art at The Elms will be showing two concurrent solo exhibitions featuring the bronze sculptures and photographs of Holly Wilson and the expressionistic paintings of Behnaz Sohrabian. The Exhibit opens on Friday, November 13th, from 4pm to 8pm. Guests are required to wear masks and no more than 10 guests will be admitted in the Gallery at one time.

Brunel Faris (1937-2005) was a native of Oklahoma City who received his MFA in Painting from the University of Oklahoma. As an artist, teacher and arts administrator, Brunel Faris was closely involved with the arts in Oklahoma for 40 years. A founding member of the Oklahoma City Arts Festival and the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition, Faris was Chairman of the Art Department at Oklahoma City University and Director of the Nona Jean Hulsey Gallery in OCU’s Norick Art Center. Brunel participated in numerous exhibitions and competitions in the United States and abroad. His work is represented in the Oklahoma State Art Collection, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman, The Philbrook in Tulsa, Oklahoma City Museum of Art, Oklahoma City Arts Council, the Mabee Gerrer Museum, the Melton Collection, the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, as well as in many private collections in the United States, Mexico, Israel, Germany, France and Italy.

David Phelps is a critically acclaimed, internationally collected contemporary sculptor. Phelps creates large and small scale bronze sculpture for galleries and public art commissions. He was raised on his family’s farm in California’s central valley, received his BA from Humboldt State University in California and MFA in Sculpture from The University of Oklahoma. After a residency at the Kohler Co. Arts in Industry program, he began his current work of figurative bronzes, partially submerged in the ground plane. His works are represented in many public and private collections across the United States, as well as in Europe, Canada, Mexico, and South America.

Beth Hammack is an Oklahoma City artist whose work is in several important private and corporate collections. In creating her abstract paintings, she combines a loose graphite drawing style with a layered and sometimes geometric application of color. Beth graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. She has also studied at the Chicago Art Institute and the London City School of Arts. Following graduation, Beth spent her early career as an interior designer and in the 1980’s was the founder and principal designer of a national sterling jewelry line named ZAGAL. She credits her interior design experience as giving her the ability to visualize how her work will relate to and enhance the physical environment in which it is placed.

Katherine Kerr Allen was born in Brainerd, Minnesota and raised in Oklahoma. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a BFA in Graphic Design & Illustration and received her MFA degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She is a full time studio artist, with studios in Oklahoma and Minnesota. Katherine’s work is held in museum, private and corporate collections. It has been exhibited Nationally and Internationally in venues including: Stanford University, Florida Atlantic University, University of South Florida, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, American Embassy, Belize, Taiwan National Living Center, Suzhou Art & Design Technology Institute, China, Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art, Columbus Museum of Art, Cranbrook Academy of Art Museum, Academy Art Museum at Easton, Maryland.

JRB will feature the work of Denise Duong, Gabriel Friedman, and Rebecca Wheeler in current exhibition, Continuum: The Indefinite Progress of Existence. "This small series of cave paintings are from my fascinations with the Lascaux cave in the south of France. The more I read, the more I wanted to know about these prehistoric paintings. They expressed themselves with paint that told their life stores. Georgia O’Keefe said, “I find that I have painted my life things happening in my life without knowing it.” For these people they knew this was their only way to tell about their stories. The Lascaux Cave had led me to this work. There are many unexplained symbols and I have used their symbols in this art and created my own cave paintings."

Denise and Gabriel are artistic and life partners. Together they created some phenomenal pieces that are currently being featured in our show "Continuum: The Indefinite Progress of Existence!"

Rebecca Wheeler has spent her entire life mastering the language of paint in her unique, intuitive, gestural style. She has always focused on the human condition, particularly the human condition of being female...

An Oklahoma native, Diana J. Smith received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of Oklahoma. Diana established her graphic design firm, Designsmith, Inc. in 1984. She has won dozens of awards through the years including many local and regional ADDY Awards in the commercial area, as well as numerous awards for her fine art. She has exhibited in juried, invitational, group, and solo shows.

Denise Duong’s collages suggest secret compartments and worlds within worlds, while Rebecca Wheeler’s paintings take us back to cave art. 

Their work, and that of Duong's life partner, Gabriel Friedman, who is Wheeler's son, are in the first "generational" show at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker. Called "Continuum: The Indefinite Progress of Existence," the show evokes both our uncertain times and hope for future art advancement...

Denise Duong is a nationally known narrative painter with a long exhibition history with our Gallery. Born in Oklahoma City of Vietnamese refugee parents she attended the University of Central Oklahoma before attending the Arts Institute of Chicago. In addition to her studio art, Denise is an accomplished painter of murals, which have become a valued addition to Oklahoma City’s Public Art Collection.

Jim Keffer is a self-taught artist. His work is born from a lifetime of observing places in the landscape and places of the heart. He started painting when he was 47 years old and states, “my past journeys are connected to my future travels and I have an infinite source of places, thoughts, and things to paint in my style which I call modern primitive. ” Painting for him comes from a primal place...

The art of each of these artists is a testimony to the continuum of creativity that has existed since the Lascaux cave drawings in Montignac, France about 20,000 years ago to the present time. The art that will be exhibited presents the narratives of each artist, documenting the development of the modern world, and giving us a glimpse of a utopian, environmentally balanced future.

Allen Birnbach’s career has spanned the worlds of commercial and fine art photography for over forty years. Client assignments have taken him to over twenty countries, driven by his enthusiasm for working on largescale productions and collaborating with unique individuals at every station of life...

Sheridan Conrad's interest in jewelry making began at an early age and eventually led her to enter the undergraduate program in art at the University of Arkansas. Upon obtaining her degree, she began her jewelry career in her home state of Oklahoma. When she was in her mid-twenties, the explosion of the petroleum industry led to a number of nouveau riche, who utilized her skills to create high-end pieces such as diamond oil derricks, race horses, and gold nuggets for famous clients like Bob Hope and Minnie Pearl. She continued her education and obtained her GIA (Gemological Institute of America) certification in diamond grading, colored stones, gemstone identification, counter design and display...

Christa Blackwood is a photo, text and installation artist working with themes related to identity, gender, history, and popular culture.The Oklahoma native developed her visual voice while a student at New York University, when she began producing street art such as the poster, Butcherknives (1991), a work that addressed issues of sexual violence...

A reminder to visit the gallery! Catherine Adams' amazing works from her series "The Acute Charm of Ruin & Development: Havana Cuba," is currently being featured in our show "Photography and Place: Fragments of the World!"

·  Brett Weston was born in 1911 and died in 1993. Photography was his passion for almost seventy years.

·  In 1925 Edward Weston removed the 13 year old Brett from school and took him on a photography trip to Mexico.

·  Brett was thought to be a child prodigy of photography. When he was 17 he was included in the now famous Film und Foto photography exhibition in Germany.

This month JRB Art at The Elms is featuring the bronze sculptures of Paul Moore and David Phelps, both of whom currently live and work in Oklahoma. Paul's work is influenced by the history of the Great American West and his Native American Heritage. David's work is strongly tied to his memories, experiences, and feelings from having grown up on a family farm in Robert's Island, California. The following works selected by the Gallery are strong examples of each artist's skill and aesthetic.

· The word photography began being used in the 1830s.

· Nicephore Niepce invented what became the modern photographic process in 1826/27. He and Louis Daguerre worked together in person and via correspondence to improve the process. After Niepce’s death, Daguerre was able to reduce the exposure time from 8 hours to 30 minutes and the daguerreotype was born in 1837.

· From the beginning photography was compared with painting. Some even feeling it would lead to the death of painting. Later painters realized they could use photography to enhance their own practices.

The Caroline Bartlett Collection of fine jewelry includes her trademark “Toursades” which are necklaces containing multiple strands of high-quality genuine pearls and/or gemstones with gold or silver beads. Included also are long strands of pearls from which may be suspended hand-carved medallions or gemstone pendants, along with multi-strand bracelets for the wrist or ankle, earrings and rings.

Since the inception of photography in the first half of the nineteenth century there has been the perception that photographs are a faithful record of their subject matter. This idea seems to be even more deeply ceded when it is a place. When people are involved, there is an instinctive knowledge that they could be acting or “putting on a face” for the camera. Photographs have shaped our perception of the world. There are places we will know only through photographic representation. Places we will never see with our own eyes. We then rely on the photographer’s eye and their experience of the place they are documenting. The time of day a photographer shoots a specific place, the scene they choose to photograph whether the intent is to show an abstraction of a particular spot, these all factor into what the viewer sees as a specific place.

This show has been organized by New York Based Curator, Julie Maguire, Director of the Brett Weston Archives and will be on display until August 31, 2020.

Represented at international art fairs such as Art Miami’s Scope and Aqua Fairs, Art Basel, Red Dot London, and Hong Kong Contemporary, Michele Mikesell exhibits her dense, tactile paintings throughout the United States and across Europe and Asia. Using strippers, chisels, razor blades and solvents, Mikesell treats paint as color and matter, killing the idealized beauty of an expected image in order to revive it and create something arresting. Through this active participation with the surface of a painting, she generates a contradiction between worn paint and pristine image or surface. Mikesell received her MFA from the University of Oklahoma. She lives and works in South Dallas and Spain.

The four artists included in this exhibition have all photographed places.  Some with figures, some without.  They all bring their unique perspective to their work and frame it through their eyes.  Looking at a photograph is the merging of the eyes of the viewer and the photographer as they try to cobble together fragments of the world.

Dan Kiacz (1948-2004) was a distinguished faculty member of the University of Oklahoma School of Art for over 31 years. He inspired and instructed many, many students during that time. Through his teaching and creative work, Dan had a tremendous impact on the School of Art, the University of Oklahoma, the State of Oklahoma and the nation.  

Considered one of the country’s most outstanding printmakers and artists in an academic environment, Kiacz held a BFA and MFA from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and had exhibited his work throughout the U.S., Europe and Mexico.

Houston Llew started enameling in a hot Atlanta garage in 2008, after finding himself unemployed in the middle of the great recession and in need of an artistic medium of his talents. Through fortuitous circumstances, Houston met the master enamelist Zingaro and followed him around, shadowing the artist around his studio until he gave Houston the keys to enameling that would later evolve into his first work - Spiritiles.

One feels a little surrounded — in a good way — by the sculptures of Paul Moore in a show at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker Ave.

Available by appointment, the bronzes by the noted Oklahoma artist and Muscogee (Creek) Nation member are on exhibit through July.

A herd of bison, driven off a cliff, seem to defy gravity as they fall to their deaths, in Moore’s “The Buffalo Jump” or “Pishkin.”

In a gallery note, he said the practice, used as early as 12,000 years ago, was necessary for survival, before the introduction of the horse.

The Sun Dance is a religious ceremony that is practiced by many of the Native American peoples. In the "Offering to the Sun", I am showing part of the Blackfoot ceremony. It consists of four to five days of dancing, praying, fasting, and offerings. The dancers are pierced in the chest and fastened to pegs and rawhide thongs which are attached to a center pole and in some cases pierced in the back and attached to buffalo skulls. 

John Wolfe was born in Vernon, Texas, August 23, 1947. He attended public school in Davidson, Oklahoma, and graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1970 with a degree in Art Education. Wolfe completed his M.Ed. at the University of Central Oklahoma in 1976. He has taught art in the Midwest City-Del City School System for 30 years and has served as adjunct art faculty at Rose State College and at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. Wolfe conducts an annual watercolor workshop in Taos, New Mexico presented by Adams State College. Since his retirement, Wolfe spends his time at his studio in Oklahoma City where he continues to work on his sculpture and painting. His large metal sculptures are installed in front of the Gallery for public viewing.

The First Friday Gallery Walk will not be happening in its usual fashion again this month. However, there are still ways to get involved in everything going on in Paseo, in person or from the comfort of your own home!

Oklahoma–Vietnamese artist Denise Duong is a narrative painter who constructs whimsical pieces from paper, acrylic, and ink. Drawing from her own nomadic yearning, Duong’s storytelling places characters in enigmatic adventures of love and life through richly hued collages. 

Sohail Shehada is a Associate Professor of Figurative Sculpture and Drawing at the University of Oklahoma. He has received an impressive list of public and private commissions in bronze and marble, including several sculptures that are permanently displayed on the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman, OK.  His work is influenced by African culture, the supernatural, and the performing arts, including ballet and opera.

In preparation for his upcoming exhibition, renowned Oklahoma sculptor, Paul Moore, invited the staff of JRB Art at The Elms to his studio to help select bronzes that will be displayed in his show, which opens Monday, June 1, 2020. In addition to showing us his work, he also showed us his phenomenal personal collection of Native American artifacts.

Before Covid, we had scheduled both Laura Nugent and Beth Hammack for solo shows in May and June. Beth's show was installed, we had a virtual opening and her work will be on exhibit through May. Since Laura lives and works in Kansas City, we decided to postpone her show until August of 2021. But we want to share with you a conversation we recently had with Laura on line. Laura is a full time artist who has been living and working in the Kansas City area since 2004. After earning a BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art, she traveled the country, exhibiting in juried art festivals and galleries. Laura has won awards for her painting, including Best Emerging Artist and Best of Show at the Paseo Arts Festival. Her work is included in collections around the US, including The Four Seasons and Grand Hyatt Hotels.

Allen Birnbach’s career has spanned the worlds of commercial and fine art photography for over forty years. Client assignments have taken him to over twenty countries, driven by his enthusiasm for working on large-scale productions and collaborating with unique individuals at every station of life. His personal work is fueled by a love of the human spirit and the power and majesty of this planet.

One of this month's featured artists is Karen Mosbacher. Her current exhibit, “I Paint Music – Music for Your Eyes” consist of three different “ bodies of work: “I Paint Music,” “All That Jazz,” and “Notes of Spring.”

A synesthetic painter, Mosbacher is known for the colorful abstract expressionistic qualities of her work. Those who experience synesthesia often see colors, feel sounds, and taste shapes. Mosbacher sees colors and shapes when she hears music.

Brett Weston, the son of famed photographer Edward Weston, was born on December 16, 1911 and died on January 22, 1993. No photographer in the history of the medium has been as involved with the natural landscape over as long a period as he. From earliest examples of his photography, beginning in the mid-1920s, and ending with the last photographs he made in 1993, it is evident that Weston’s vision was unique and consistent.

Since it is Women's History Month, we want to take a moment to celebrate a few of our amazing female artists in the Gallery. We are lucky enough to represent such an array of talented female artists like Janice Mathews-Gordon, Rebecca Wheeler, Gail Rothschild, Beth Hammack, Denise Duong, Behnaz Sohrabian and so many more. Oklahoma City - On March 6, 2020, during The Paseo’s First Friday Gallery Art Walk, JRB Art at The Elms will host an Exhibition Opening for two extraordinary artists: Karen Mosbacher, who  will be exhibiting three sets of paintings entitled: “I Paint Music—Music for Your Eyes” in the Main Gallery, and George Bogart (1933 - 2005), Professor Emeritus of the University of Oklahoma, will be exhibiting a collection of paintings entitled, “Inside Outside” in the iconic Ship Gallery.

Both exhibitions will run through April 25th.

First Friday reception: A reception was held at JRB Art at the Elms recently and Joy Reed Belt was hostess for the Paseo's First Friday opening featuring the paintings, drawings and sculptures of D.J. Lafon. The works from Lafon’s estate were recently acquired by the gallery. The selections displayed were “Business Man,” “Farm,” “Portrait” and “Political,” all from several series of paintings from the artist who died in 2011.

In honor of D.J. Lafon, JRB Art at the Elms is hosting a panel discussion of his life with Architect - Alan Lafon, D. J. Lafon's son, Attorney and Author - Kent Frates, and Photo Journalist and Artist - J. Don Cook.  They will discuss their personal ad professional relationships with the late artist (1929-2011). 

Kent Frates and Lafon worked together on the book, "The Captain and His Crew," a poem written by Frates and illustrated by Lafon.  Signed copies of this book will be available for purchase.

A superb show at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker, reflects the gallery’s recent acquisition of “all remaining works” in his estate.

Tulsa artist, Marjorie Atwood, is showing oil and resin on panel works from her “Stories of Love and Longing” series at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker.

Showing with Atwood at JRB is Oklahoma City sculptor Tim Cooper. Cooper said the carved stone and wood works in his “Encircled” exhibit explore “his fascination with the cyclical, orbital nature of things.”

OKLAHOMA CITY – Longtime Oklahoma City resident and beloved artist, Rebecca Wheeler, will be exhibiting her latest collection of paintings, “Woman Revealed,” at JRB Art at The Elms in The Paseo during the month of July 2019. Wheeler has spent her entire life mastering the language of paint in her unique, intuitive, gestural style. She has always focused on the human condition, particularly the human condition of being female.

An opening reception will be held from 6-9 pm on Friday, July 5, at JRB Art at The Elms during the Paseo Arts District’s monthly First Friday Gallery Walk.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Native of California and Colorado retiree Karl Brenner spends his days painting En Plein Air. Brenners love of art began at age 11 when his parents took him to the Art Institute of Chicago. He proceeded to take art classes growing up and won an art scholarship to Stanford University. He eventually decided against a career in art and became a surgeon instead. In 1987 he returned to art after attending an art workshop by Ted Goershner. He sold his surgery practice, moved to Durango, Colorado and began painting again. He now spends his time traveling and painting, capturing the beauty of midwestern landscapes.

There is a nice interplay between the larger, looser works and smaller more focused abstract acrylics of Beth Hammack. Hammack’s “Birds Utopia” show of paintings is on view through May 31 at JRB Art at The Elms gallery, 2810 N Walker.

An abstract artist attempts to reflect the issues of a “Divided” country in one of three new shows at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker. The artist is Janice Mathews-Gordon, whose acrylics are on view with mixed media paintings by Carlos Tello.

Animals seem to both inhabit and come out of clouds, waves, objects or merely swirls of graphite, in the large drawings of Haley Prestifilippo.

Prestifilippo has a show of her “Powdered Graphite” drawings, with an exhibit by Douglas Shaw Elder, at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker.

“Past, Present and Future” is the title of a show that looks back, as well as to the here and now, and future, in work by well-known and emerging artists.

An opening reception will be held for Behnaz Sohrabian and Stella Thomas from 6-10 pm, Feb. 2 during the Paseo Arts District’s First Friday Gallery Walk. The exhibitions will be on view through Sunday, Feb 25. The exhibit, opening reception and artist talks are free to the public, as a part of JRB Art at the Elms’ Beyond Art Series.

Small “Objects of Desire” are made larger, and materials are used in novel ways to challenge our imaginations, in three new exhibits. The three “Memories Explored” shows by Jose Rodriguez, Beatriz Mayorca and David Phelps are at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker.

OKLAHOMA CITY –  An opening reception will be held for David Phelps, Beatriz Mayorca and Jose Rodriguez from 6-10 p.m. Nov. 3 during the Paseo Arts District’s First Friday Gallery Walk. The exhibition explores memories – personal or otherwise signification, and will be on view through Sunday, Nov. 26. The exhibit, opening reception and artist talks are free to the public, as a part of JRB Art at the Elms’ Beyond Art Series.

There is a nice contrast between the more downbeat film noirish oils of George Oswalt and the “decidedly positive” acrylics of Elizabeth Hahn. Their paintings and photos by G. L. August Loessberg are on view in a show by the three “longtime friends” at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker.

Visitors have a superb choice between jazzy abstractions, primitive landscapes, and organic yet functional vessels, in a 3-person exhibit at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker.

“Each civilization has a different way of looking at the human body,” and this also applies to many of the artists in a new show. More than 30 artists are showing in the “Art of the Nude” exhibit through July 30 at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker.

Works by three artists in the “Best of the West 2017” show are almost heroic, while still life oils by the fourth are magically realistic. The exhibit by Paul Moore, Mike Larsen, Allen Birnbach and James Andrew Smith is at JRB Art at The Elms gallery, 2810 N Walker.

Layers cover up elements in the mostly abstract acrylics of Beth Hammack and photographed collages of Andy Mattern. Hammack and Mattern are exhibiting work at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker, along with three landscape artists.

JRB Art at The Elms welcomes figurative painters Sara and Shane Scribner's show, “Reverie!” and never before seen etchings from the estate of D.J. Lafon. The exhibitions open with a reception from 6 to 10 p.m. April 7 during Paseo's First Friday Gallery Walk, and run through April 30.

An intriguing choice between nonobjective abstractions, color photos, and fantasy paintings and drawings is offered in a current show.

Showing work at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker, are Tom Toperzer, Todd Stewart, Jason Cytacki and Haley Prestifilippo.

All are Norman-area artists with strong connections to the University of Oklahoma.

Colorful realistic-expressive paintings and stylized “aerial landscapes” contrast nicely with a relative lack of hue, in three solo exhibits.

The shows by Carol Beesley of Norman, Bob Nunn of Dallas, and John Wolfe of Oklahoma City, are at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker.

Though the move reunited Behnaz Sohrabian with her brother and sister, the Iranian-born artist felt like she touched surface of a new planet when she arrived in Oklahoma, a place she now calls her second home.

Sohrabian is one of three artists featured this month at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N. Walker Ave. Her exhibit, The Creator, runs through Aug. 28. John Brandenburg’s Noble Figures and Janet Massad’sDuets also are on display.

The exhibitions will open with a reception from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 5, during Paseo's First Friday Gallery Walk, and continue through Aug. 28.

A dynamic field where moving rectangular shapes coexist and compete for space is found in acrylic-collages by Janice Mathews-Gordon. The Oklahoma City artist is showing semiabstract “State of Mind” acrylic paintings at JRB Art at The Elms.  Also on view are stoneware-porcelain ceramics of Kansas City, Mo., artist Bernadette Esperanza Torres.

Contemporary photos that use historic techniques contrast with classic Western oils and bronzes, in new exhibits by photographer Christa Blackwood and painter-sculptor Harold T. Holden at JRB Art at The Elms.

Art review: The acrylic and oil on metal work in David Crismon’s “Dislocated Histories” exhibit is at JRB Art at The Elms. Also on display are shows by two other artists. All are recommended viewing.

The summer heat is setting in, but something cool is happening at JRB Art at The Elms. Internationally acclaimed artist Billy Schenck will be at the gallery from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm Sunday for the Prix de West brunch

Schenck's work is part of the Best of The West exhibit and is featured along with Oklahoma artists Joe Andoe and Bert Seabourn.

I’ve never known anyone named “Joy” who didn’t personify her name. Dr. Joy Reed Belt is no exception. A conversation with the ebullient Dr. Belt is exactly that: a joy. The joy-joy-joy-down-in-my-heart kind of joy.

In its November exhibit, “Figures of Speech,” JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker in the Paseo Arts District, presents three noted Oklahoma artists: Denise Duong, Ginna Dowling, and George Oswalt. While divergent in style and subject matter the work of these three artists demonstrate their individual philosophies of life, emotion, and art.

The exhibit will open with a reception from 6 to 10 tonight during the Paseo’s monthly First Friday Gallery Walk.

There's something for nearly everybody in a show of paintings by B.J. White, mixed-media works by Michi Susan, masks by Patrick Riley and sculpture by Holly Wilson — all of whom are among the state's master artists.

JRB Art at the Elms celebrates 10^th anniversary

Joy Reed Belt is marking a decade of preserving the legacy of Oklahoma City art pioneer Nan Sheets with Friday’s release of “Project X,” a limited edition portfolio box featuring prints from 10 of her gallery’s regular artists.

There is a stark contrast among the dark, harlequinesque oil paintings of Michele Mikesell, the colorful, semiabstract acrylic landscapes of Thomas Batista, and the light-based glass and plastic sculptures of R.C. Morrison.

The May exhibit at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N Walker, will feature the works of Beth Hammack, an Oklahoma painter, and Brooks Tower, an internationally recognized mosaic artist. Both are to open Friday, with an opening reception from 6 to 10 p.m. during The Paseo Arts District’s monthly First Friday Gallery Walk.

The exhibit can be seen during the Paseo Arts Festival Memorial Day Weekend and will close on May 28.

For this exhibit Strandell observes storied ancient and modern culture through the mediation of handmade paintings and through the lens of technology with lenticular prints.
